Every Choice, Explained

Seven decisions separate a loose diamond from a finished engagement ring. Here is what each one changes, so you know what you are looking at as you build.

The Centre Diamond

Start with the shape. A round brilliant returns the most light and is the most requested cut we make. Oval, pear and marquise elongate the finger and look larger than their weight suggests. Princess, cushion and radiant hold more of the rough crystal, so they tend to cost less per carat. An emerald cut trades sparkle for long, clean flashes and shows clarity more openly than any other shape.

Every centre stone here is a lab grown diamond between one and three carats — chemically and optically identical to mined, at a fraction of the price.

The Setting

The ring head holds the stone. Four prongs is the classic, showing the most diamond; a peg head lifts it higher; pavé, a single halo or a crown ring the centre in smaller diamonds to widen its presence.

The band changes the whole silhouette — single, double twist, knife edge, square edge, tapered, hidden halo or split. Side stones can run along it in channel, prong, bead, pavé or U-pavé settings, or you can leave the band plain.

The Metal

Yellow gold reads warm and traditional and flatters warmer skin tones. White gold disappears against the diamond, which makes the stone look larger and cooler.

You can set the head and the band independently. A white gold head on a yellow gold band is a two-tone ring: the setting vanishes into the stone while the band keeps its warmth. It is a common request and costs nothing extra.

Your design arrives with the booking, so we start on diamond colour, clarity and budget instead of on paperwork. Every ring is then handcrafted in our own North York workshop and shipped securely to you.
